I'm wearing my belt in 'Stacy London' fashion - backwards. I really like this option when I want a cleaner look from the front. I just needed to accentuate my waist, but I didn't want the look of a belt buckle.
I like What Not to Wear, but sometimes I feel like they take away a person's individuality. Some of their rules are a bit narrow. Did anyone see the episode with Tiffany (80's mall superstar)? She was very into the 1970's looks - bell-bottoms, loose, flowy tops, etc. Of course, the bell-bottoms (or you might call them, flares) were not acceptable. This, I truly do not understand. I believe a flare leg pant/jean is extremely flattering on a curvy body. The volume at the bottom of the leg balances out the volume elsewhere. Anyway, my other gripes about WNTW - Carmindy. Her makeup is boring, I don't like her application process (and if you ask a MU Artist, they will agree), and she's got a few narrow rules of her own. Like contouring is too harsh for day. Listen lady, I contour everyday and I've never been described as "harsh"... well, my personality? Yes. But my face? Never!

I love What Not to Wear myself as I'm a stylist, but I agree with everything you have said.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine what they would do to me and my 'goth' wardrobe. Hahahaha!
I think about what they would say about some of my get-ups every time I watch the show. I've come to the conclusion if I was on it, I would be desperately fighting to keep some of my favorite items. I fantasize that I successfully convince them.
DeleteI'm addicted to WNTW but agree with your perspective. Their "rules" should be treated as mere guidelines, to be bent when we want to individualize our appearance. Especially true for makeup. Anyone who reads my blog knows how much I bend rules!
ReplyDeleteYES, the makeup is so BORING! Someone should tell Carmindy that lipstick exists and can really amp up a look. And don't get me started on eyeshadow...
DeleteOMG, yes about bell-bottoms. They are so flattering! WNTW is fun to watch, but I assume all that drama is just for the camera, and when the tape's not rolling, the "rules" become suggestions and friendly advice. At least I hope!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to let you know that I nominated you for a Liebster Award over on my blog:

I hope you have a few lesser-known blogs that you would like to showcase too.
I think you're probably right. If everyone agreed and got along, no one would watch the show... hehe.
DeleteI stopped watching the show b/c its the same outfit over and over and the SAME STORES. Granted I mostly shop at the same 3 stores and 4-5 boutiques and I wear 10-12 brands so I get the whole routine, but if I see one more jewel tone blouse with brown trousers...anyway I stopped watching the show.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. It does seem like they put together the same looks. For one person (you) to shop at only a few stores makes sense, but to send numerous people to the same stores, does not. I only shop at a few stores as well, but it took a while to hone in on those specific stores.
DeleteOH WNTW - I enjoy watching it but feel entirely the same as you do - but i want to add they NEVER do COOL HAIR COLORS OR CUTS ON ANYONE EVER! BLAH! That is a person's ONE chance to experiment with something NEW and EXCITING - and they give them blah hair and blah makeup every time. WAH!
ReplyDeleteI did see one episode of cool hair. But just one. You're right, everything is crazy boring. I kind of get why - if you're working on someone that has no style, you want to ease them into it. But I feel like this is an opportunity to show them that style and fashion (including hair & makeup) can be fun! And they, predictably, don't take that opportunity. Like, ever.
