hi-lo tank (Bisou Bisou @ JCP, $7)
cropped tuxedo jacket (Mossimo via eBay, $5)
denim shorts (Mossimo @ Target, $17)
fishnet print snood (c/o Goth Barbie)
studded wedges (Deena & Ozzy, UO, $28)
shredded tights (JCP, $4)
"Renegade" necklace (JewelMint, $30)
This snood was a gift from Goth Barbie, a fellow blogger (Military Fashion Show). You can snag one just like it, or similar, on her Etsy site. Her snoods are very versatile because they're reversible. The underside of this is mainly red with some specks of black. Next time I wear this, I'm probably going to wear it with fishnets, cause you know what they say? Double the fishnets, double the pleasure. (No one says that, btw.)
When planning this outfit, I knew I wanted to wear tights w/shorts, but I wasn't sure how to style them. I found a bunch of advice for curvy women suggesting loose-fitting, long shorts. I'm going to go ahead, on record, and state this is probably NOT the best look for those of us with curves. Actually, I don't think this would be a good look on any body type. Baggy shorts just sound like a bad idea.
On the topic of shorts length, there seems to be a thought that larger women should wear longer shorts, but I believe the length of your shorts depends more on your height than anything else. I'm 5' 3" so I won't be caught dead in long shorts; they cut me in half and make me look like I'm part of the Lollipop Guild. That was a long way of saying, screw advice you find on the internet (including mine) you must try different combinations and find something that works for you.

Oh look - i can comment again! Hooray! I love this look - it works really well with your shape! Rock those short shorts girl! Also love that you found this cool graffiti to pose in front of!
ReplyDeleteYeah, you can! Yay! Thanks, good thing I didn't take the advice of that stupid website... I saw this wall on the way to an antique shop and made my BF turn around so I could use it for my pics.
DeleteIt's such a shame you live in the city and I'm in the 'burbs. If we were closer, we could combine our shoe closets and have The Most Epic Shoe Closet EVAR!
ReplyDeleteI dig this look... but I'm sure that doesn't surprise you at all ;)
Omg, moar shoes! We could rent an apartment between us and fill it with all the shoes. That would make it really difficult and time consuming to get dressed in the morning though. This plan isn't that well thought out, now that I think about it.
DeleteYou look great and I LOVE those wedges!!
ReplyDelete"Screw advice you find on the internet (including mine) you must try different combinations and find something that works for you." Preach on sista, I whole-heartedly agree! You look great!
Thanks, lady!
DeleteI like this look. A lot. Very creative.
ReplyDeleteA snood! By coincidence, I learned only two weeks ago what they are. Very cool.
I agree wholeheartedly about not following "rules": we need to experiment and see for ourselves what works. I especially resent rules for gals who are different (e.g., tall or large or small): let US decide, not anyone else, what looks right on us. Your attitude rocks.
Thank you, Ally.
DeleteI'm w/you about the rules for those of us that are different; I resent them as well. We have enough problems without all these fashion "restrictions" being forced upon us. I think every individual has to do what feels right for them. No one can tell me it's against the "rules" to be my genuine self, so that's my plan.
